    The alphabets are of capital letters mostly gothic or lombardic in shape, usually 4 or 9 to a page, the letters of different colors.

    The initials "F.H.L.V." and date 1592 are found in several places, most clearly on f. 16r with a device showing a goat (?) and tree.

    Perhaps written in Switzerland (to judge from early ownership at St. Gall). Previous catalogers thought probably the Netherlands. Tray case spine: "MS. Alphabet Netherlands 1592".
