This initial begins Psalm 1, 'Beatus vir' (Blessed [is] the man). The rest of the psalm continues on the reverse of the leaf. The B of the first psalm was a common place to find decoration, often with an image of King David playing music, as in this example, because David was believed to have composed the psalms.
