Decoration: Versal initials 1-line alternating red and blue; Psalm initials 2-line blue with red filigree; major divisions begin with 5-line initial in typical English palette of pale blue, pink and green on gold with acanthus and infill in colors, 3/4 gold-bar border, acanthus at corners, with black tendril vines.

Binding: English blind-rolled and -stamped brown morocco over pasteboard, ca. 1815, title gilt-stamped red leather spine label reads "ROMAN/ MISSAL", spine gilt in compartments, all edges gilt, paper pastedowns and endleaves, gilt fillet turn-ins and board edges.

Origin: Written in England in the second quarter of the fifteenth century, Sarum use. The calendar includes St. Batildis (30 January), Richard Confessor (3 April), Swythunus (15 July), Edith (16 September), Edmund (16 November), and many other English saints, although it is not localizable beyond Sarum use.
