Initial A with God adored by angels
0 references
The initial A in this cutting was painted in Italy, probably in the fifteenth or sixteenth centuries. The scene within the initial, however, is by an artist working in the nineteenth-century. Medieval art became fashionable in the Victorian period, and the demand for illuminated manuscripts tempted many artists to make forgeries to sell to unwitting buyers.
