Elsynge held the office of Clerke of the Parliaments from 1621 to 1635. His Modus tenendi Parliamentum was left incomplete at his death, and Book 1 was not published until 1660. Four manuscript copies of the work survive in the British Library alone and, like this one, may pre- or post-date the printed edition
