    The work is dedicated to Pope Pius II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini). It later passed into the library of Thomas Thorpe and then into that of Sir Thomas Phillipps (his no. 7380). On inner front binding: "7380 Ph" in modern pencil. Title below, in pen ("Vita B. Francisci Patritii Senensis di Tarlati Ordinis Servorum BVM qui obiit 1326-"). Below, in pencil: "193/2/2/0." Pasted on spine: "7380."

    Origin: Since the text was written by a Servite friar (cf. "ordinis nostri" on fol. 11r, 12v, 13v), it was probably produced at one of the Servite monasteries in the area of Florence. The dedication to Pius II provides a terminus ante quem of 1464. However, the fact that the arms on fol. 1r are surmounted by a bishop's mitre, rather than the papal tiara, has been interpreted to indicate that...
