The glance of this curious fellow turns toward a prayer or a psalm text, now cut away, in a book of hours. The artist has playfully composed the man's headgear out of the same foliate motifs that form the letter D, blurring the distinction between art and design. The reverse contains a passage of text from the last prayer said during Vespers of the Hours of the Holy Spirit. It is not clear...
