This image from a Gospel lectionary depicts the moment when Lazarus rose from his tomb while his sisters, the Virgin Mary (who supports him), and a crowd of onlookers watch. The scroll held by Christ reads, 'Lazare veni foras ...' (Lazarus come forth), which according to John 11:43 were the words Christ spoke at Lazarus's tomb in order to raise him.
