This initial begins the first Matins antiphon for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, 'Quem dicunt homines esse Filium hominis...' (Who do men say is the Son of Man). The illuminator of this initial is a follower of Johannes von Valkenburg, a Franciscan scribe and illuminator working in Cologne in the late thirteenth century.
