    This cutting was taken from the Matricola del Collegio dei tavernieri (Guild of Vintners), founded in 1379. In the late Middle Ages, citizens in Italian cities organized themselves into guilds or confraternities according to various occupations. Membership ensured protection of one's job while alive as well as prayers for the soul after death. A matricola is a matriculation list of its members...
