Leaf from a medieval choir book, with chants for Saint Mauritius the martyr (d. 287; feast day Sept. 22; BHL 2:5737). Mauritius was the leader of a Theban Roman legion who refused to harass Christians in Switzerland and was murdered along with his 6000 soldiers (PL 50:827A-832C).
