Binding: 19th-century. 1/2 fine diaper grain brown cloth over pasteboard, Strozzi arms (three crescents) blind-stamped on front, mandorla on back, title gilt-stamped on spine: "Il/ Savio/ Roman." and "M. S./ Membr./ Del./ S. XV".

Origin: Written in Italy in the sixteenth century, probably based on an older model known as Dottrina dello Schiavo di Bari.

Provenance: Early annotations and arithmetic computations on inner flyleaves (perhaps the original binding) and various dealer's notes on pastedowns. Owned by Ferdinando Strozzi (1774-1836), his crest on the front cover and ex libris stamp with motto "Expecto" on folio 1.
