Initial F

This initial begins an antiphon that appears to be for the first Sunday after Octave of Pentecost, 'Factum est autem ut moreretur mendicus...' (It came to pass that the beggar had died). The unidentified monogram, a C encircling an A and an R, in the lower margin is likely to be that of the original or an early owner.

This image shows the reverse of a leaf with a decorated initial from an antiphonary. This side of the leaf, the true verso, contains an antiphon that, according to a rubric on the front, appears to be for the first Sunday after Octave of Pentecost, 'Rogo te pater ut mittas Lazarus in domum patris mei ...' (I beg you, father, to send Lazarus to my father's house).
